Nba 2017 Draft
Nba 2017 Draft
On June 19, four days before the start of the 2017 NBA Draft, the 53-29 Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers traded their top picks in the first round to one another, meaning the holders of this years first four picks will be the exact same players from last years draft. After the 2017 NBA draft, Boston Celtics President Danny Ainge admitted that the franchise was selecting superstar power forward Jayson Tatum, even though it retained the 2017 Nets first-round selection. With the third overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft, the Boston Celtics selected superstar forward Jayson Tatum out of Duke University. In only three short seasons, Jayson Tatum has rocketed into the upper half of the 2017 Draft Class, proving himself a budding superstar.
Jayson Tatum ranks 92nd in points per game with 5.8 per play as a ball-handler off pick-and-rolls. LaVar Ball is the only 2017 draft class player averaging at least 10 points and six assists each season. In the playoffs, the now-Spurs forward helped lead the Celtics to the NBA Finals, posting 8.5 points, three rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. The 8.5-point average includes a 21-point outing in the Celtics Game 1 victory over the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals.
2017 NBA Draft was one of the rare occasions
The 2017 drafts first round featured the current Spurs being selected within the first 10. The 2017 NBA Draft was one of the rare occasions that the players selected from his own year did not win Rookie of the Year; the award went to Ben Simmons, the 2016 first-overall selection, becoming the first player since Blake Griffin in 2011 to win the award in the year in which he was undrafted. The 2017 draft was the most recent in which a top-10 player was selected by a team that had little interest in selecting the Boston Celtics, who had no intentions of selecting Washington guard Markelle Fultz, as well as because the Lakers held the 2017 first-round selection from the Nets.
The Boston Celtics hold the rights to the Nets 2017 first-round pick due to a 2013 trade that sent Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Nets for four first-round draft picks. Lonzo Ball was initially selected with the second overall pick by the Los Angeles Lakers, but was sent to New Orleans in the Anthony Davis trade. Drafted to the Los Angeles Lakers with Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma remained with L.A. following the Anthony Davis trade.
DeAaron Fox is one of the fastest guards from end-to-end in the NBA, and is hands down the best point guard available in the 2020 NBA Draft.
